The Muskegon Community College women’s basketball team improved its record to 5-1 with a 83-76 win over Oakland Community College Saturday in the MCC Thanksgiving Tournament.
The Jayhawks played a superb first half, building a 30-point lead with about four minutes remaining. The MCC bench made a major contribution, outscoring Oakland’s bench 32-14. Oakland never led in the game.
Seven Jayhawks scored eight or more points in the contest. Abby Rodriguez led the team with 17 points, 7 assists, and 6 steals. Tootie Thompson had 14 points on clutch 6-6 free throw shooting. Kaylie Caverly and Francesca Cerniglia had 10 points apiece for the Jayhawks. Taylor Brown posted an interesting statistical line with 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists.
