HOLTON — Braylin Thurow knocked down four 3-point baskets and scored 16 points to lead the Spartans in Thursday night’s 66-41 West Michigan Conference Rivers Division win at Holton.

Eathen Huffman contributed nine points and two steals, while Jaxon Munoz added seven points, five assists and six steals for the Spartans.

“We came out a little flatter than I wanted to,” said Spartan coach Craig Vander Haag. “We picked up energy with Jaxon’s defense and court vision. Braylin’s shooting was big for us tonight. He was a sniper. Whenever they made a run, he answered back. Dakota Sterley had a good effort on both ends.”

The Spartans jumped out to a 18-3 lead and established their will on the Red Devils. Mason County outscored the Red Devils, 18-9, in the second and raced to a 36-12 halftime lead.

After a 16-11 third period gave the Spartans a 52-23 cushion, the Red Devils finished up with a 24-14 fourth quarter, but it was not enough.

Mason County (2-4, 1-2 WMC Rivers) hosts Fruitport Calvary Christian in a non-conference game Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

Holton (2-4, 1-2 WMC Rivers) entertains Hesperia next Tuesday in another conference game.
