WHITEHALL – The Shelby boys’ golf team posted a third-place finish with a score of 175 in the North Muskegon Jamboree at Bent Pine Golf Club on Thursday.

North Muskegon finished first with 159, Ravenna came in second place with 171, Hart was fourth with 196, Hesperia came in fifth with 200, Mason County Central came in sixth with 212 and Holton finished seventh with 220.

“The recent rain dampened the grounds and cool temperatures hampered all golfers today, but some of the guys managed to shoot impressive scores,” said Shelby coach Fred Inglis.

Treyjin Waller shook off a triple-bogey first hole to lead the Norse with a 41 for sixth place overall. Rafael Davis shot a 42 and Titan Carter had a 45. Zach Horton carded a 47, while Ignacio Ortiz and Josh Neuman chipped in 49 and 57, respectively.

“These players learned that each round is different, each golf course is different, and everybody’s focus varies from day to day,” Inglis said. “They also learned that high school golf is a team effort. If one of the six golfers has a bad day, then his five friends can pick him up.”

Shelby will be at Oceana Golf Club on Monday.
