With three key players missing from its rotation, the Muskegon Community College women’s basketball team dropped its conference opener to the Lake Michigan Community College Red Hawks 64-52 on Saturday.

The Jayhawks had a rocky start, training LMC 27-7 within the first 10 minutes of the first half. MCC fought back, coming within eight points, but could not overcome the early deficit.

Dani Jones had a huge game for the Jayhawks, with 13 points, 22 rebounds and four blocked shots. Sophomore Abby Rodriguez led the team in scoring with 19 points.

MCC fell to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Jayhawks face nationally ranked Kalamazoo Valley Community College Wednesday.
