Detroit sports glance: Simon pitches another great game, Tigers rally for a 2-1 victory over New York

Tigers 2, Yankees 1 – J.D. Martinez and Yoenis Cespedes each hit RBI singles in the seventh inning to help the Tigers defeat the Yankees in game one of a four-game series.

Alfred Simon won his third game of the season, pitching seven and a third innings, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out seven.

Joakim Soria picked up his fifth save in the absence of Joe Nathan.
