It may have taken two days to complete, but the Montague baseball team finally secured a doubleheader sweep of Ravenna with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday.
The teams played a 13-inning thriller in Game 1 on Tuesday, and the second contest was called due to darkness tied at 2-2.
Play resumed on Wednesday, and the teams again went to extra innings.
In the bottom of the 10th with the bases loaded, Montague’s Abram Erickson laid down a suicide squeeze bunt. Ravenna’s catcher stepped on home for a force out, then tried to throw Erickson out at first for a double play. But the throw was off target, allowing Dylan Stever to score from third for the game-winning run.
Stever was also the game’s winning pitcher, tossing three scoreless innings. Starter Jacob Buchberger pitched seven innings and struck out nine with three walks.
Cameron Brayman totaled two doubles and scored a run for the Wildcats, who improved to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the West Michigan Conference.
