Red Wings 2, Sharks 1 – Muskegon native Justin Abdelkader’s third period goal pushed the Red Wings over the San Jose Sharks late Thursday night.
Abdelkader scored his 13th goal of the season with just under seven minutes left in the third period.
Danny DeKeyser also netted a goal for the Red Wings, who are currently on a three-game winning streak.
Detroit goaltender Petr Mrazek earned the victory, stopping 35 of 36 shots.
The Red Wings are now 21-13-7 on the season, good for 49 points and a second place tie in the Atlantic Division.
Detroit will continue its west coast trip Sunday against the Anaheim Ducks.
