Grand Haven’s varsity girls basketball team used a stifling defensive performance to help the Bucs secure their first O-K Red Conference win, 30-26 over Grandville.

LSJ Logo incertIt was the Bucs’ 14-point third quarter that gave them a narrow edge. They clung to that lead in the fourth quarter to improve to 4-7 overall.  Alli Keyser paced Grand Haven with 14 points.

The Bulldogs fall to 8-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

MONA SHORES 56, ZEELAND EAST 33 – After a tight first half, the Sailors (9-3, 3-1) used a 18-5 third-quarter advantage to pull away for a win against the Dux (3-8, 2-2). The Chix hung tough in the first half, trailing just 28-20, but the defensive adjustments of the Sailors proved to be too much. Jordan Walker led the way for Mona Shores with 20 points, while Alyza Winston chipped in with 16. Sophie Riemersma scored nine points to lead the Chix.
REETHS-PUFFER 74, GRAND RAPIDS UNION 29 – The Rockets (11-1, 4-0) came away with a decisive league win over Grand Rapids Union (1-8, 0-4) Tuesday night. The win is the sixth straight for Reeths-Puffer.  Delaney Bolles recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Rockets. Brooke Larabee added 15 points, while Artrese Williams and Elysia Mattos scored 14 each. The RedHawks were led by Khejana McCoy with nine points.
