North Muskegon’s varsity golf team captured a Division 4 regional championship on Thursday at The Emerald Golf Club in St. Johns, as the Norsemen edged Muskegon Catholic Central by just two strokes on the final leaderboard, 316-318.
Both the Norsemen and Crusaders clinch a spot at the Division 4 state finals, which will be held at Michigan State University’s Forest Akers West Golf Course on June 10-11.
Junior Brenden Harris led North Muskegon with a 70, followed by senior Wil Mierz with a 78.
Rounding out the Norsemen’s scoring were Connor McEvoy with a 82, Gannon Moss with a 86, and Harry Mierz with a 95.
The Crusaders’ Collin Powers, a junior, was individual medalist with a 68. Fellow junior Chase Mastella also had a strong showing with a 79.
Although their team missed out on qualifying for the state finals, Western Michigan Christian had a pair of individual qualifiers in Daniel Vanbiesbrouck with a 78, and Owen Alfree with a 83.
