The Fremont boys basketball team downed Newaygo 64-57 on Friday, handing the Lions their first loss of the season.

Fremont improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in CSAA Conference play. Newaygo dropped to 7-1 and 3-1.

The Packers trailed 37-34 at halftime but rebounded in the third quarter to take a 48-47 lead. Free throws in the fourth quarter sealed the deal for Fremont.

Sophomore Logan Karnemaat led the Packer offense with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Sam Kaastra recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners while Ben Schmidt and Dominick Byrne chipped in 13 and 9 points, respectively.

Cameron Fisk had 19 points to lead Newaygo.

KENT CITY 47, MORLEY-STANWOOD 33 – Kent City toppled an unbeaten team with the win. The Eagles (6-2, 3-1) did not give up a Morley-Stanwood (7-1, 3-1) field goal until the second quarter, riding a quick 12-1 lead to the comfortable victory. Fraser Wilson, Gavin Mead and Braden Petruska all scored eight points to lead the Eagles.

GRANT 72, TRI-COUNTY 46 – A 35-20 Grant halftime lead turned into a 51-28 third quarter advantage, but the Vikings came roaring back, cutting their deficit to 10 in the fourth quarter before Grant (4-3, 3-1) finally pulled away. Carter Chase and Spencer Naffziger paced the Tigers with 16 points apiece. Naffziger also added seven rebounds and four blocks. Casey Geers chipped in with 11 points and Trevor Naffziger posted six steals for the winners.

WHITE CLOUD 57, HOLTON 55 – Kevin Slowik poured in 27 points, grabbed nine rebounds and recorded five steals for the Red Devils, who fell to 4-5 on the season and 0-3 in league play. Kyle Wildfong chipped in with 11 points.

LAKEVIEW 52, HESPERIA 39 – The Panthers’ 21-point fourth quarter was not enough to overcome a large deficit against Lakeview. Scott Peters paced Hesperia (2-5, 1-2) with 22 points and 12 rebounds.
