The Ludington girls basketball team remained undefeated in Lakes 8 Conference play with an exciting 53-45 win over Western Michigan Christian on Friday.

The Orioles took a 23-18 lead into halftime before the Warriors (8-6, 3-3) took a three-point lead with three minutes left in third quarter.

WMC star Aubrey Goorman, who had 23 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks, was called for her fourth foul late in the third quarter. With Goorman sitting on the bench, Ludington (8-4, 5-0) worked its way to a 10-point lead midway through the fourth quarter and held on for the victory.

Mackenzie Howe led the Orioles with 15 points while Bethany Shay added 11 points.

MANISTEE 32, MUSKEGON CATHOLIC 22 – In a defensive battle, Manistee’s 11-point second quarter proved to be the difference in holding off MCC (5-7, 2-4) in Lakes 8 action. Natalee Kott paced Manistee with 11 points. MCC’s Talia Tyler totaled 10 points and six steals while Zoie Price hauled in 13 rebounds.

FREMONT 27, CHIPPEWA HILLS 21 – The Packers didn’t give up a basket in the first quarter of the low-scoring contest, but only led 4-0 at the first buzzer. Fremont (9-3,5-2) then outscored Chippewa Hills by two points in both the second and third quarters before being outscored 8-6 in the fourth. Bre Harris led Fremont with 19 points.

KENT CITY 65, HOLTON 52 – Zara Weber’s scoring outburst propelled Kent City (12-2, 6-0) to a 20-point lead in the first quarter. Holton (9-5, 3-3) stormed back to cut its deficit to just five, but the Eagles held off the push and reestablished a double-digit lead. Weber paced Kent City with a game-high 25 points, while Kaitlyn Geers, Paige Mortensen and Teanna McCuaig each chipped in 11. Holton’s Courtney Slater and Mikaela Baker led their team with 11 points apiece, while Alicia Dykman added 10.
