Western Michigan Christian High School had two celebrations Friday night.
The first was recognizing the 25th anniversary of the 1992 boys varsity basketball state championship. The second honored the coach of that team, and the winningest coach in Muskegon area history – Jim Goorman.
The WMC family congratulated Goorman for recently receiving a clean bill of health following a bout with cancer. Goorman, who won five state titles at WMC (1992, 1999, 2008, 2009, 2010), was diagnosed with sarcoma fibromatosis in September. He had his left pectoral muscle removed and fought through seven weeks of radiation therapy at the Mercy Health Johnson Family Cancer Center.
LSJ photographer Tim Reilly captured both celebrations which took place between the girls and boys varsity basketball matchups against Muskegon Catholic. Check out the photos.
