The Muskegon Catholic Central football team opened the season with a road victory against Algonac 35-7 on Friday in non-league play.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter, led 21-0 at halftime.

MCC scored both its first quarter touchdowns on 18-yard scampers by Carson St. Amour and Dane Rutz to give the Crusaders a 14-0 lead.

Nolan Converini caught a 45-yard pass from quarterback Max Price to increase the Crusader advantage to 21-0 at halftime.

St. Amour added an eight-yard run in the fourth quarter to increase MCC’s lead to 28-0 before Algonac cut its deficit to 28-7.

The Crusaders closed out the scoring with a three-yard run from Tiovanni Knight.

MCC was led offensively by Price with 150 passing yards while Rutz caught five passes for 78 yards.

MCC (1-0) will host Pontiac Notre Dame Prep next Friday.
