The West Michigan Whitecaps jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Sunday before eventually falling 5-2 at Fort Wayne.

Reynaldo Rivera singled home Kody Clemens in the first inning to give the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead before Fort Wayne scored five straight runs in the game.

The last Whitecaps run came in the seventh inning when Brock Deatherage singled home Clemens, making the score 5-2.

Deatherage led the Whitecaps with five hits total on the day while Jordan Pearce and Clemens each added two hits.

The Whitecaps are now 60-58 overall on the year and 24-24 in the second half, four and a half games behind Bowling Green for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division second half standings.

Fort Wayne and West Michigan will continue their series on Monday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
