The Spring Lake football team’s season came to a tough end on Friday in a 59-7 loss to Grand Rapids Catholic Central in a first-round Division 4 playoff game.

The Lakers trailed 10-0 after the first quarter, 38-0 at the half, and 52-0 at the end of three.

Senior quarterback Caleb Montgomery got the Lakers on the board in the fourth quarter with a two-yard touchdown run to end the Cougars’ shutout bid.

Montgomery led the Lakers with 17 carries for 75 yards while Mitch Payne added 14 carries for 70 yards. Austin Shubert paced the Laker receivers with two catches for 13 yards.

Spring Lake was led by Noah Verlinde on defense with five tackles while Sean Carns and Wyatt Lisman added three apiece.

Spring Lake ended its season with a 5-5 record.
