Two area girls high school bowling teams and two individual bowlers won championships last weekend in regional competition, and qualified for the state tournament in the process.

In Division 2 regional action at Northway Lanes in Muskegon, the Mona Shores girls took home the team championship, besting second-place Northview 3,476-3,450.

The Ravenna girls scored 3333 at Sherman Lanes in Muskegon to take home the Division 4 regional title, outpacing Fowler and Portland St. Patrick.

Other teams that qualified for the state finals were the Oakridge boys (second in regionals) and Oakridge girls (third place) in Division 3 and the Kent City boys (third place) in Division 4.

The area’s two individual regional champions were Alyssa Major of Oakridge , who bowled a 1,153 series in Division 3 competition, and Jessica Plichta of Fruitport, won the Division 2 individual regional championship with a 1,119 series.

Overall, 18 local boys and girls bowlers qualified individually for the state finals, which are slated for Friday and Saturday at various locations around the state.

The Division 1 state finals will be at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park while Division 2 will be at Century Bowl in Waterford. Division 3 will take place at Northway Lanes in Muskegon while the Division 4 finals will be held at M-66 Bowl in Battle Creek.
