The West Michigan Whitecaps lost 6-5 to Lake County in a home game on Friday night.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Whitecaps responded with five runs in the home half of the inning.

In the first inning, Nick Ames singled home Reece Hampton and Parker Meadows, Sam McMillan singled home Ulrich Bojarski, Ames scored on a Jeremiah Burks walk and Jordan Pearce scored on a Wenceel Perez walk.

The Whitecaps offense was held off the scoreboard the rest of the game while Lake County scored once in the third, once in the fourth, and three times in the fifth.

Ames and Meadows each had two hits for the Whitecaps while Ames also had two RBIs.

Wilkel Hernandez took the loss for the Whitecaps, allowing five earned runs on six hits over 4 and 1/3 innings.

With the loss, the Whitecaps fall to 9-11 overall on the season and three and a half games behind Lake County for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

The Whitecaps and Lake County will continue their series on Saturday at 4 p.m.
