Despite a slow first half, the Fruitport football blew out Grand Rapids Union 49-0, using a strong second half performance

The Trojans’ Ethan Flores opened up the game’s scoring with a 17-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tyler Zimmerman.

Nearly three minutes into the second quarter, Zimmerman connected with Aiden Vela for a 26 yard touchdown pass to go up 14-0 which was the halftime score.

Ethan Flores scrambled for an 18-yard touchdown scamper to begin the third quarter.

Less than a minute later, Zach Richardson scored on a six-yard fumble recovery.

Flores finished the third quarter of scoring with a 22-yard touchdown run, giving Fruitport a commanding 36-0 lead going into the fourth.

Two minutes into the fourth, Richardson reached the endzone on a 29-yard touchdown run. Nick Kleinhecksel finished up the game’s scoring with a 41-yard touchdown reception.

Running back Zane Lee led the ground game with 66 yards rushing while Flores followed with 40. Zimmerman passed for 217 yards while Landon Doctor led the receivers with 54 yards.

On defense, Richardson led the team with seven tackles, one interception and the fumble recovery. The Trojans improve to 3-1 on the season and will travel to Muskegon next week.
