The Whitehall football team used a powerful ground game to defeat Shelby 40-0 on Friday in West Michigan Conference action.

The Vikings opened up a 13-0 lead after one quarter and scored 20 points in the second quarter to take a 33-0 halftime lead. They wrapped up the scoring with a fourth quarter touchdown.

The Vikings outrushed Shelby 365-26.  Running back Kayleb Venema totaled 214 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Brodie Fogus added 102 yards and three touchdowns.

Jacob Haynes paced the Whitehall defense with 5.5 total tackles. Graycen Shepherd added 4.5 and  Hayden Brown had 3.5.

Whitehall is now 2-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The Vikings will have a crucial game at North Muskegon next Friday as they try to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Lazaro Madrigal rushed for 43 yards for Shelby, which dropped to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
