The Fruitport football team edged Coopersville in a non-conference nail biter, defeating the Broncos 22-21 on Friday.

The Trojans jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a nine-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter by Camden Farrell.

Coopersville responded with a touchdown and two-point conversion to take an 8-7 advantage.

Fruitport regained its advantage to 15-8 with a 15-yard touchdown catch by Ethan Flores from Crue Cooper.

Coopersville tied the game 15-15 late in the third quarter, then the Trojans responded with a 48-yard connection from Tyler Zimmerman to Flores to give Fruitport a 22-15 lead.

With five seconds remaining in regulation, Coopersville cut the deficit to 22-21 with a touchdown, but failed the two-point conversion.

Zach Richardson led the ground game with 32 yards rushing for Fruitport while Zimmerman finished with 102 yards passing on six completions.

Flores led the Trojans with 125 yards receiving and both Landon Doctor and Patrick Faltinowski led the defense with eight tackles and an interception each.

The Trojans improved to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the O-K Black Conference play. They host Mona Shores next Friday.
