The Muskegon Lumberjacks won their fifth straight game, defeating the defending Clark Cup champion Sioux Falls Stampede 4-2 on Friday at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

The Lumberjacks are suddenly 5-4 on the season after starting 0-4. They have 10 points in the standings and are currently in tied for fourth place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.

Muskegon will look to complete a sweep against the Stampede on Saturday on the road. Faceoff is slated for 8:05 p.m.

The Lumberjacks opened the scoring 17:41 into the first period on a goal from Tanner Edwards to give Muskegon a 1-0 lead.

Sioux Falls quickly responded at the 19:02 mark of the first period to tie the game 1-1 on a Brenden Olson tally.

The Stampede scored the lone goal of the second period to take a 2-1 lead heading into the third period after an Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe goal.

The Lumberjacks finished the game strong, scoring three third period goals. Christophe Fillion (8:29), AJ Hodges (9:35) and Edwards (19:19) each found the back of the net for Muskegon.

Muskegon’s goaltender Noah Giesbrecht stopped 27-of-29 shots. The Lumberjacks outshot Sioux Falls by a 33-29 margin.
