The Mona Shores football team warmed up for its showdown with Muskegon by downing Jenison 35-6 on Friday in an O-K Black Conference matchup.

Despite giving up a touchdown early in the first quarter, the Sailors offense answered back with a two-yard touchdown run by quarterback Caden Broersma to give the team a 7-6 advantage after one.

In the second quarter, Sailors’ receiver Gary Humphrey scored on a 28-yard touchdown pass. Two minutes later, running back Tre Hatcher found the end zone on a 79-yard touchdown run, giving the Sailors a 21-6 lead going into the half.

Late in the third quarter, Brady Rose scored on a 35-yard touchdown run to make the lead 28-7. Kolbe Trovinger scored the final touchdown in the fourth quarter on a four-yard run.

Hatcher dominated the ground game with 209 yards rushing on 17 carries. Rose recorded 80 yards o0n four carries. Rose led the defense with eight tackles while Trovinger, Humphrey and Cam Sobish had seven tackles each.

The Sailors improved to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play and will host the Big Reds next Friday.
