It may not have been pretty, but Holton got a victory in round one of the Division 9 playoffs vs White Cloud Friday night.
Holton committed five turnovers on the night, but the defense kept them in the game until the offense scored late as the Red Devils came away with a 23-17 win.
Holton quarterback Austin Fowler hit Bret Hosmer with a 51-yard touchdown pass to take the lead with just under two minutes left.
The first half started off slow with White Cloud taking a 7-6 lead into halftime. The Indians led 17-15 after the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was a stalemate until late, when Fowler and Hosmer connected on the winning score.
During White Cloud’s final drive, Kevin Erickson recorded the game sealing interception for the Red Devils, sealing the win.
Fowler threw for 102 yards and the game winning touchdown and added another 55 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Erickson ran for 77 yards and had another 30 receiving to go along with his game sealing interception. Chase Albright ran for 67 yards, and Kaleb Nichols ran for 44 yards with a touchdown.
Defensively, Dylan Cartwright and Hunter Hoofman held the way with eight tackles each in the win for Holton.
Holton advances to play Fowler next week.
