The Ludington boys basketball team came up just short in its bid to win a spot in the state quarterfinals, losing 41-38 on Thursday in a Division 2 regional championship game at Traverse City Central High School.

Escanaba led 23-21 at halftime. Ludington scored the first seven points of the third quarter to take a 28-23 lead, but Escanaba finished with quarter with a 12-4 run and led 35-32 heading into the fourth.

The Eskimos were up 40-38 when Eric Victorson hit one of two free throws with 13 seconds left to make it a three-point lead. Ludington’s David Shillinger got a three-point attempt off from the corner with less than a second left, but it missed the mark and Escanaba escaped with the win.

Shillinger finished with 22 points for the Orioles while Peyton LaCombe totaled 10 points and 11 rebounds. Brandon Frazier paced the Eskimos with 10 points.

Escanaba improved to 17-2. Ludington finished the season with a 13-6 record.
