The state-ranked North Muskegon tennis team picked up a regional title and qualified for the state finals Thursday night. The Norse were the top scoring team in their regional with 24 points, five ahead of NorthPointe Christian and Grand Rapids West Catholic with 19 each.

The Norse picked up four flight wins on the day. Alicia Hall (No.1 singles), Noa Bowen (No. 2 singles), Francine Vinson (No. 4 singles) and the duo of Gabby Gatson and Sarah Muzzy (No. 1 singles) each won their flights.

North Muskegon advances to play in the state tournament the weekend of June 4 and 5. 

Whitehall qualifies for state tournament

Whitehall’s tennis team also qualified for the state tournament with a second place finish in regionals. The Vikings finished with 10 points on the night, just ahead of Coopersville with 9 and Fruitport with 7.

Lucy Zamojcin finished runner up in No. 4 singles, as did a pair of Whitehall doubles teams in Chloe Christensen and Mylee Boyd (No. 2) and Sarah VanDam and MacKenzie Hall (No. 3).

Fruitport’s Allison Blakeman finished as runner up in No. 1 singles and qualified for the state tournament as an individual.
