The West Michigan Whitecaps exploded for 17 runs on Saturday in a 17-5 victory over Lake County to improve their winning streak to six games overall.

Top Detroit Tigers prospect Spencer Torkelson led the Whitecaps with three hits including two home runs on the night while also totaling six RBIs.

Also finishing with three hits and three RBIs each on the night for West Michigan were Eric De La Rosa and Daniel Cabrera.

Andre Lipcius also had a strong night for the Whitecaps, finishing with two hits and two RBIs of his own.

Lake County jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning before West Michigan responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, making the score 3-2.

After the Whitecaps added a run in the third inning, Lake County responded with three runs in the fifth inning to make the score 5-4 in favor of the Captains.

In the sixth inning, the Whitecaps scratched across three runs to once again take the lead.

With a 7-5 lead in the seventh inning, the Whitecaps scored seven runs to extend the lead to 14-5 before adding three additional insurance runs in the eighth inning to make the final 17-5.

With the victory, the Whitecaps improve to 13-9 overall on the season and have a half game lead for first place in the High A Central East Divison.

The Whitecaps will wrap their home series against Lake County by going for a six-game sweep with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
