Mona Shores volleyball kicks off season with 1-4 mark at Grand Haven early tournament

The Mona Shores Sailors volleyball team finished 1-4 on the day at the Grand Haven Early Season Tournament on Tuesday.

The Sailors dropped a 25-19, 25-22 decision to Mattawan, followed by a 25-11, 25-20 setback to Holland West Ottawa and then fell to Jenison, 25-15, 25-20.

In Silver Bracket play, Mona Shores defeated Petoskey, 25-16, 25-18.
In the finals, Mattawa defeated the Sailors 25-20, 25-20.

Leaders for the Sailors were Ava Dunn with 25 kills, Grace Norris with 12 and Ali Trautner with 6. Norris had 39 assists and Kyann Hellmann had 23. Dunn led with 11 blocks followed by Norris with 6. In digs, Trautner led with 37, followed by Holli Brus with 27.  

The Battle on the Boardwalk is up next for the Sailors. Grand Haven will host the annual event this Friday, where the Sailors will battle the Bucs, the Spring Lake Lakers and the Fruitport Trojans.
