Friday evening’s Kent City vs. Hesperia  CSAA Silver football game has been cancelled for Covid related reasons. It will mark the second consecutive week that Kent City will not be in action, as they forfeited to Morley-Stanwood last Friday evening.

On Saturday, we were informed by Kent City that their football team was quarantined and could not play Friday night as scheduled,” Hesperia Athletic Director Tony Grimard said. “On Monday, our team was quarantined also. After discussions with the MHSAA, the game was ruled a no contest. We are hopeful that we will be able to return in time for our October 1 homecoming game,” Grimard said.

Hesperia coach, David Smith is hoping his Panther squad can return to action soon along with Kent City.

It sucks for the kids, especially Kent City,” said Smith. “They had to forfeit against Morley too. We went from 26 players down to 12 during the Lakeview game because of covid and injuries. As a high school football player, especially as a senior, you only have so many opportunities to play the great game of football. Wins and losses are part of the game, but not getting the opportunity to even practice is tough on coaches and players.”

Kent City, 1-1 in CSAA Silver action and 2-2 overall, will travel to Holton next Friday evening, while Hesperia, 0-2 in conference play and 0-4 overall, will host Morley-Stanwood for homecoming.
