AllendaleSpring Lake’s girls and boys cross country teams are going to the state meet based on their runner-up finishes on Saturday.

The meet was hosted by Allendale.

In the boys’ race, Grand Rapids Christian ran away from the field with a score of 30 points. Spring Lake was a distant second with 73.

Spring Lake was led by individual champion Ian Hill with a time of 15:58.21.

Laker senior Carter Phillips finished 12th in 17:10.41.

Fruitport sophomore Levi Glynn finished 10th with a time of 16:59.79 and qualified for state as an individual.

Allendale was third and will join the top two teams in the final, while Grand Rapids Catholic Central was fourth and Hudsonville Unity Christian was fifth. Other area teams included Fruitport in sixth place and Oakridge in seventh.

The Laker girls also were runner-up with 54 points. Grand Rapids Christian won the team title with 31 points.

Allendale was third and qualified for state as a team, followed by GR West Catholic in fourth, and Unity Christian fifth. Other area team finishes were Fruitport in seventh place, Oakridge in ninth and Orchard View in 11th.

The highest finisher for Spring Lake was junior Lily Parker in third position with a time of 19:17.63. Laker sophomore Bea Reeser was eighth in 19:55.79 and freshman Lexie Ruffing came in ninth in 19:59.35.

Also qualifying for the individual state final was Spring Lake freshman Brooklyn Verplank in 15th place with a time of 20:39.15 and Fruitport freshman Valerie Pollock who was

14th with a time of 20:34.48.
