WHITEHALL — A strong finishing kick by the Whitehall girls basketball team Thursday night powered the Vikings past Oakridge, 46-33 in the West Michigan Conference at home.

The Vikings started the game off with a 23-15 first quarter, and maintained an eight-point lead the rest of the way until the big fourth quarter. Whitehall led, 30-22 at the half after outscoring the Eagles, 11-9 in the second quarter.

The two teams played evenly in the third period, with each of them scoring seven points as the Vikings moved in the fourth quarter with an eight-point lead, 30-22. Whitehall broke things open in the fourth, with a 16-11 advantage down the stretch.

Charley Klint had a huge night for the Vikings, firing in 23 points, hauling in eight rebounds and picking off five steals.

McKenna Coron finished the night with six points and she was a presence under the glass with eight rebounds. Hailey Cames and Lola Buckner scored five points apiece.

Destyni Lane led Oakridge with 13 points, 4 steals. 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Andrea Romero-Serrano chipped in with 7 points, 2 steals, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

Whitehall improved its record to 4-8 overall and 3-4 in the conference and snapped a four-game losing streak. The Vikings are next scheduled to visit Ravenna on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Oakridge fell to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the conference. The Eagles are scheduled to see action again on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at Montague.
