SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central’s boys basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak Tuesday night with a 60-45 victory over Hart in the West Michigan Conference at home.
Will Chye scored a game-high 25 points and ripped down eight rebounds to lead the Spartans, while Jayden Perrone added 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.
“We played a real solid game tonight,” Spartans’ head coach Tim Genson said. “Even though Chye scored 25 points, we had contributions from everyone.
“It is nice to get a conference win to start February.”
The Spartans were able to get their offense meshing from the start, taking a 14-11 first quarter lead. The defense made its mark in the second quarter, as the Spartans rolled to an 19-8 second period to build a 14-point lead, 33-19 at the half.
Hart made a run at the Spartans in the third quarter, however, outscoring them, 16-11 to cut their lead to nine, 44-35. But the Spartans pulled away with a 16-10 fourth quarter.
Parker Hovey led the Pirates with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Wyatt Dean chipped in seven points.
The Spartans improved their record to 4-8 overall and 1-7 in the conference. Next up for Mason County Central is a road trip to Montague on Friday, Feb. 4.
Hart saw its record drop to 4-6 overall and 3-6 in the league with its third straight loss. The Pirates are next scheduled to host Ravenna on Friday, Feb. 4.
