ZEELAND–Using a second half resurgence the Mona Shores girls basketball team topped their O-K Green Conference host the Zeeland West Dux 56-39 on Tuesday evening.

The Sailors came out wide open as they attacked the basket and played tight on defense to take an early 16-5 lead after the first eight minutes of play.

The Sailors sputtered in the second stanza and only scored eight points to the Dux 19 to knot things up at 24-24 by halftime.

After some refocusing at the break the Sailors came out and racked up a 20-9 third quarter scoring advantage to go ahead 44-33 entering the fourth quarter.

There was no slowing the Sailors down in the final eight minutes. Mona Shores held the upper hand in the final fram 12-6 securing the 17-point win.

Leading the way for the Sailors was Khaleeya Cook who canned 17 points while Olivia Sobczak chipped in with 13 points and Ali Phillips added 11 points.

Mona Shores rises to 13-2 overall and 8-1 in the O-K Green. The Sailors are set to continue league action on Friday as they host the Zeeland East Chix.
