MUSKEGON — Hart’s wrestling team had eight wrestlers qualify for the MHSAA Division 3 individual regionals at the individual district competition on Saturday at Orchard View.

The Pirates crowned two individual champions at the tournament, 119-pounder Trayce Tate and Mason Cantu at 145 pounds.

Tate received a bye in the first round, and registered technical fall over Preston Priese of Shelby, 16-0 in 2:36. He then knocked off Logan Goguen of Kent City, 16-3 before taking top honors with a pin in 1:29 over Chris Aebig of Montague.

Cantu received a pair of byes into the third round, where he stepped on the mat and took care of business with a pin fall in 2:36 over Angel Tello of Grant before claiming he title with a pin in 4:43 over Cole Karasinski of GRWC.

Finishing second, and bringing home runnerup medals, were 160-pounder Zane Thomas, 215-pounder Leo Guadarrama and 285-pounder Ivan Lara.

Thomas won his first match of the day with a pin 59 seconds over Scott Stults of Grant. He reached the semifinal round with a fall in 17 seconds over Michael Moore of Montague in 5:12, but lost in the championship match because of an injury.

Guadarrama received a first-round bye and then defeated Brandon Wert of Howard City Tri County by a fall in 41 seconds. He pinned Joe Anderson of Kent City in 38 seconds in the semifinal round, but lost a 5-4 decision to James Pefley of Comstock Park in the championship match.

Hart also had 125-pounder Ty Thomas and 160-pounder Alex Hicks finish third, while Uriel Vilches-Mendoza was fourth at 140 pounds.
