KENT CITY–The Eagles hosted the Red Devils in the potential conference championship determining game and prevailed 47-30.

The first half was back and forth as Holton led Kent City 13-7 at the end of the first quarter and Kent City led at halftime 20-18. Holton cut the lead to 1 as it was 31-30 going into the fourth quarter.

Kyler Larson’s strong performance was much needed as he scored 24 points for the Eagles. Hayden Carlson added 10 points of his own.

Holton’s offense was led by Austin Fowler with 11 points. Wyatt Monette added seven points and six rebounds.

Kent City head coach David Ingles after the game said, “We were good on defense in the first 3 quarters but fantastic in the fourth quarter! In the huddle before the fourth quarter we talked about the defensive drills we did the first day of practice. I told them if we do those things we will win…we shut them out”.

The impressive defense won the conference championship for the Eagles as they improve to 9-0 in conference and 12-4 overall. Kent City will host Blanchard Montabella next Wednesday.

Holton head coach Keith Swanson said, “Nothing came easy tonight. We got pretty discouraged from being aggressive early on which turned it into a perimeter game for us. Whenever that happens, if the shots start to dry up so does our offense, and that’s what happened late for us. Lots of credit to Kent City for making things difficult”.

Holton’s impressive season falls just short of a conference championship as they fall to 7-2 in conference and 11-5 overall. The Red Devils travel to Western Michigan Christian next Tuesday.
