KALAMAZOO– The Muskegon Community College Women’s Basketball program went on the road to Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Monday evening and came back home with there 20th win of the season, making quick work of the Kalamazoo Valley College Cougars 91-50.

The Jayhawks once again displayed confidence and consistency from the start as six players hit for double digits.

The Lady Jayhawks jumped out to a quick lead at the end of the first quarter leading 20-8.

MCC increased that lead to a commanding 52-22 halftime lead, outscoring the Cougars 32-14 in the second stanza.

Maintaining momentum through the second half along with focusing on key elements of the game (defense, communication, and execution on the offensive end) kept the Jayhawks running the court and controlling the game all the way to the end.

MCC held the upper hand in the third quarter 24-7 while Kalamazoo Valley Community College outscored the Jayhawks 21-15 during the final ten minutes.

“We played a well balanced game on both sides of the ball. I’m happy that the girls came together with another team win,” said Jayhawks coach Jason Cooper.

Mariah Pringle (Brethren) led the Jayhawk offensive attack with a team high 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. She was followed by Trina Lewis (Reeths-Puffer) who tossed in 14 points, to go with six rebounds and two steals. Karleigh Jeffries (Whitehall) also chipped in with 14 points while hauling down eight rebounds. Julia Tierman (Mona Shores) tallied 11 points, seven assists and four rebounds while Calla Miller (Fremont) also found the nets for 11 points to go with six rebounds. Alley Seiber (Reeths-Puffer) rounded out the double digit scorer’s for the Jayhawks with 10 points and grabbed four rebounds.

Muskegon Community College improves to 20-4 overall and is 14-3 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. The Jayhawks will take the court again on Wednesday, Feb. 23 when they host Lake Michigan Community College at 5:30 pm.
