FLORIDA–The Muskegon Community College women’s softball program swept a pair of games to open the 2022 college season over the weekend, 17-0 over the Central Florida Eagles and 4-3 over Clarke University JV.

Against the Eagles, Kendyll Bond (Jenison) and Cassie Kohnke (Fruitport) combined on a two-hit shutout.

The Jayhawks rapped out 14 hits. Home runs were hit by Bond and Willo Stahl (Fruitport).

Maddison Mettler (Mona Shores), Madison Clarke (North Muskgon), Hayden Ruel (Oakridge), Annika Roersma (G.R. West Catholic), and Brianna Pastor (Oakridge) had multiple runs batted in.

Makayla Thompson (Reeths Puffer) earned the win against Clarke University JV giving up three runs on five hits. She struck out eight, and did not issue a walk. The Jayhawks did not commit an error in the field.

Roersma hit a walk off homerun in the seventh inning for the win.

Ruel and Roersma each had multiple hits to lead the team at the plate.

Bond led the defense with 11 put outs.

The Jayhawks are now 2-0.
