LUDINGTON — Although the Ludington boys swimming and diving team ended up on the short end of a 99-74 score against Manistee at home Thursday night, it wasn’t all bad news for the Orioles.

All of the Orioles either swam at or beat their best times for the season.

“The boys are working very hard in and out of the pool, as we near the end of the season,” Orioles head coach Joe Schnieder said. “We swam some kids in different events tonight, and they did very well.”

Evan Bennett eclipsed the 6 dive record with a score of 281.40. The old record was previously held by Campbell Kolk of Manistee at 276.65. Bennett is only four points away from the Orioles varsity record.

Other highlights for Ludington included Lucas Miller’s first place in the 50-yard freestyle (26.27), as well as a second place finish by the 200-yard medley relay (1:54.32) swam by Madl Hayden, Lucas Peterson, Bennett and Kyle Wendt.

Madl also was second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.44), Peterson was second in the 200-yard IM (2:30.82), Wendt finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (57.98), Bennett took second in the 500-yard freestyle (6:00.91), the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Madl, Peterson, Wendt and Bennett finished second (1:41.24).
