ZEELAND–The Spring Lake boys swim team found themselves in a tight match on Tuesday night as they fell to their host the Chix of Zeeland East 97-83 due in part to several Laker absences from mid-winter break.

It was a tough competition but multiple Laker’s showed time improvements as the season draws closer to the end.

Ethan Hare had a lifetime best time and made the individual state cut in the 50 Free with a time of 22.87. Dropping eight seconds in the 100 Free was Quentin O’Donnell who went from a time of 1:14 to 1:06. Also shaving time off their bests was Matthew Daudelin who improved his time in the 100 Fly from 1:25 to 1:20.

Overall, Spring Lake Head Coach Nick Zacek has pulled away some positives despite being handed the loss.

This was an excellent opportunity to race at the pool where our conference championship will be held,” said Coach Zacek. “We had some terrific improvements tonight with some still battling through fatigue. I’ve been saying it a lot this season, but I certainly can’t wait to see what these boys will do when they’re rested at their best in these next four weeks with conference and state almost here.”

Spring Lake will celebrate senior night as they host their final home meet of the season on Thursday February 17th against the combined program of Mona Shores.
