GRAND RAPIDS–Owen Varnado tallied 39 points in Western Michigan Christian’s 79-55 boys basketball loss to Grand Rapids Covenant Christian on Tuesday night.

The Warriors trailed Covenant Christian 19-15 after the first quarter but saw their offensive production dwindle in the second quarter as the Chargers took a 37-24 halftime lead.

Varnado got the Warriors rolling the the third quarter as they trailed 51-42 going the fourth.

The Warrior’s defense was worn down in the final eight minutes as they were outscored, 24-13.

Varnado led WMC on the glass with nine rebounds while Jared Olsen chipped in with 11 points for the Warriors.

Western Michigan Christian falls to 3-10 on the season and 3-4 in the Lakes 8 Activities conference. The Warriors are back in action as they face league foe Manistee for a makeup game tonight, Wednesday, February 16.
