RAVENNA — No better way to open the conference season than by sweeping a doubleheader, which is exactly what Ravenna’s softball team did Thursday afternoon on the Bulldogs’ diamond, turning back Mason County Central, 15-0 and 24-0.

The first game went only four innings with Emma Gillard pitching a perfect game — no runs, no hits, no errors — with 10 strike outs while facing only 12 batters.

Emma Herremans was the pacesetter at the plate for the Bulldogs, finishing the game 2-for-2 with a triple. Liberty Willick also was 2-for-2.

Also getting hits for the Bulldogs were Amelia Porter with a double, Gillard, Alexis McMahon and Isolde Deal.

Game 2 only lasted three innings, with Gillard did not give up a hit and struck out five.

Herremans finished the game 3-for-3 with a home run and two triples to lead the Bulldogs. Addison Gillard was also 3-for-3 with a home run and a double.

Kara Postema went 2-for-4 with two doubles, Emma Gillard was 2-for-3 with a double, while Maddie Kilbourne, McMahon, Ellie Solem, Porter and Willick each added base hits.

Ravenna improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the West Michigan Conference.
