Mona Shores girls softball team presents $3,500 check to “I Understand”

NORTON SHORES—After the Mona Shores-Grandville softball game on Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Sailors held a brief ceremony in which they made a check presentation to the “I Understand” organization.

The check presentation was the result of the Mental Health Awareness Tournament the Sailors had on Saturday, May 14, with Allendale, Spring Lake and Oakridge.

The event was the idea of Mona Shores senior Elizabeth Savacool.

Each team wore jerseys honoring someone they know who has been touched by mental health challenges.

Tuesday, Savacool and her Sailor teammates presented “I Understand” with a check for $3,500 to aid in their work providing mental health support services in West Michigan.

Allendale won the tournament with wins over Oakridge and Mona Shores.
