GAYLORD– The dance is over for the Grant girls softball team. The music stopped Saturday when the Tigers were shut out, 8-0 by Escanaba in the MHSAA Division 2 regional tournament in Gaylord.

Grant mustered just two hits, the first a single to right center by Jayci Hance in the first inning and a base hit to right by Makayla Zerlaut in the seventh inning.

In between, the Tigers struck out a total of 12 times, and had no real opportunity to challenge the Eskimos.

Meanwhile, the Eskimos struck out just twice and frequently put the ball in play.

Despite the loss, Tigers’ coach Shelley Hance was proud of her team’s effort and performance throughout the season.

“It was great to see the girls grow in the field,” said Hance. “We will miss our seniors, Jaycee Rider and Allie Noble, as they were a big part of our offense this season.

“We have a group of underclassmen who are ready to assist the program moving forward.”
