RAVENNA — Mauricio Castillo scored a pair of goals as the Shelby boys soccer team shutout Ravenna 4-0 in a West Michigan Conference game on the road Wednesday night.

Castillo broke a scoreless tie in what was an evenly played first half. He received a pass from Alan Arreola outside the Bulldogs’ penalty box and drilled a shot that the Bulldog keeper couldn’t block.

Castillo found the back of the net again to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead before the end of the first half on a pass from Wyatt Dickman.

The Tigers began to gain more possession of the ball in the second half and used an effective passing game to control the play.

Ignacio Ortiz scored the third Shelby goal of the night, and then assisted Carson Claeys on the fourth goal.

Shelby’s defense allowed the Bulldogs just three shots on goal and Ismael Valdez gained the shutout in net.

Shelby (7-8, 4-2) hosts North Muskegon on Monday.

Ravenna dropped to 2-5-2 overall, 1-3-2 in the conference. The Bulldogs compete in the Hart tournament on Saturday.
