KENT CITY–The Kent City volleyball team hosted Central Montcalm in Tuesday night CSAA Gold action and came away with a decisive victory.

The Eagles won in three sets to remain atop the CSAA Gold with a 9-0 record.

Kent City came out sluggish to begin the match. A powerful Central Montcalm hitter and several self-inflicted mistakes caused the Eagles to fall behind 15-1 in the first set. However, they cleaned up their play in the second half of the set and eventually took it 25-22.

The Eagles found themselves behind again in the second set and were forced to take a timeout down 11-5. Once again, they pulled together a string of good plays and won the second set, 26-24.

Determined not to fall behind early for the third time in a row, Kent City jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held the Hornets at arms’ length all the way through the deciding set for a 25-18 win.

Leading Kent City offensively were Lexie Bowers and Maddie Geers with 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Geers also had four blocks.

On defense, sophomore Kaden Perkins led with 16 digs.

Jacee Hoffman added 32 assists.

“We definitely did not play our best tonight, but we never gave up and fought hard to come back after being down 15-1 in that first set,” said Kent City head coach Vandy Krueger.

The Eagles improve to 27-4-2 (9-0) and are next in action Thursday against Grant.
