KENT CITY–The Kent City soccer team hosted Reed City in the first round of the CSAA Bronze conference tournament on Monday evening. The Eagles took home the 4-0 victory to advance to the second round.

The Eagles were able to overcome Reed City’s defensive-oriented scheme that regularly stuffed all 11 Coyotes within thirty yards of their own goal.

Their first goal came after 8 minutes of play, when junior Santiago Gomez slipped a shot past the Coyote keeper from 12 yards out. Jaret Jaramillo had the assist.

The Eagles put another score on the board with 4 minutes left in the first half when Gomez found Dylan Sutton on a downhill run. Sutton went one-on-one with the keeper and buried home Kent City’s second goal.

Two minutes later, Seth Vanderwest headed in a corner kick from Alfredo Bolanos-Colin to make it 3-0 Eagles.

Sutton found the back of the net again with a header off a cross by Bolanos-Colin halfway through the second half.

Kent City advanced to 11-1-2 and will take on the Grant Tigers in the second round of the conference tournament on Wednesday.
