The Mona Shores hockey season got off to a quick start on Saturday in the Sailors’ home opener against Grandville.

Jack Reelman scored Mona Shores’ first goal of the season just 40 seconds into the contest as the Sailors cruised to an 8-0 win.

Isaac Habetler and Noah Lepzinski assisted Reelman’s goal. The Sailors turned in a total team effort with 14 different players notching points.

Sailor forward Brady Tilden put the Sailors up 2-0 five minutes later with the assist coming from Zach Leibrandt.

Mona Shores led 4-0 after the first period and added four more goals in the second.

Reelman finished with two goals and an assist while Tilden finished with two goals. Habetler posted a goal and an assist and Nico Taylor added two assists.

Also scoring goals for Mona Shores were Ethan Ring, Matthew St. Martin and Trent Benedict.

Oliver McDonald tallied the shutout win in goal for Mona Shores with nine saves.

Mona Shores outshot Grandville 36-9 and had four penalties on the afternoon.

The Sailors next head to Brighton on Friday and Saturday, November 25 and 26.
