NEWAYGO–The Kent City Eagles girls’ basketball team raced out to a big lead early and never looked back against Newaygo on Friday night.

The Eagles led 18-5 after one quarter and cruised to a 62-11 victory over the Lions.

“We just got beat by a good team tonight,” said Newaygo coach Nathan Thomasma.  “We are young and we struggled on offense and a team like Kent City is going to expose mistakes and we made way too many. I got good hard working character kids in my locker room and we’re going to continue to work to keep getting better.”

Kent City extended its lead to 46-7 by the half. The Eagles held a 50-11 lead at the end of three quarters.

Kent City was led by senior Lexie Bowers, who had a game high 22 points, three assists, three steals, three rebounds and two blocks. Hailey Kamphuis tossed in 16 points and had two steals. Maddie Geers had 10 steals and 6 rebounds. Savannah Miller had eight points and three steals. Alyssa Miller had six points and grabbed four rebounds.

Grace Painter had five points and seven rebounds for Newaygo.
