MUSKEGON–The Muskegon Big Reds boys basketball team started out slowly in their 62-45 OK Conference-Green win over the Zeeland East Chix on Tuesday.

However, a strong second-quarter performance forced Zeeland East to play catchup the remainder of the evening.

The Big Reds held a 11-8 lead after the first eight minutes of action, thanks to five points from David Day III.

Five players found the scoring column for Muskegon in the second stanza, led by Anthony Sydnor III with six points and Terrance Davis with five points, The Big Reds put a little distance between themselves and the Chix with a 19-7 scoring advantage to take a 30-15 halftime lead.

Zeeland East managed to hold the upper hand, 14-13, in the third quarter and trailed Muskegon 43-29 entering the fourth quarter. Syndor III tacked another five points of his team-high 18 points in the third quarter for Muskegon.

The Big Reds put Zeeland East away with a 19-16 scoring advantage in the final quarter.

Muskegon shot just 13-of-23 from the free-throw line.

Joining Syndor III in double digits were Day III with 14 points and Jordan Briggs with 10 points. Muskegon had another balanced offensive evening with eight players scoring.

Muskegon (6-0, 2-0) will be back in action on Friday evening when they travel to Zeeland West (6-1, 1-0) to take on the Dux in an OK Conference-Green contest.
