FREMONT – The Fremont boys basketball team opened the calendar year with a 68-41 victory over Howard  City Tri-County on Tuesday night.

It was Fremont’s second straight victory.

The tone was set early with an energetic first quarter on the part of the Packers. Though the energy faded somewhat over the course of the game, the Packers remained in control.

“The last three quarters we weren’t very consistent with our focus and execution, but we still have a lot of positives to take from this game,” said Fremont coach Adam Bowen. “We are improving and starting to understand what it’s going to take to win ball games.  We are definitely heading in the right direction and I’m proud of the kids for how hard they are working.”

Jordon McDonald led the Packers with 20 points, seven steals, five rebounds and four assists. Chaz Miller chipped in a double-double of 11 points, 10 assists and four steals.

Gavin Richards added a team-high 12 rebounds while Ben Mellema scored 12 points.

Fremont (3-2, 1-1) will travel to Montague on Friday for a WMC-Lakes matchup.
