HESPERIA –The Hesperia boys basketball team held off Walkerville in a close game on Wednesday evening.

The Panthers escaped with the victory, 49-47.

With one of the best offensive starts of the season, the Panthers built a 23-15 lead after the first quarter.

“I was happy to see our guys creating shot opportunities by ball movement and moving without the ball,” said head coach Andrew Worcester.

The Panthers were outscored 13-8 in the second quarter and led 31-28 at halftime.

“Our defense was a little too relaxed for my liking, but we found a group of guys in the lineup who could get the job done tonight,” Worcester said.

The Panthers buckled down in the third quarter and stretched their lead to 41-37.

Maddox Mosely led the way for the Panthers with 20 points.

Walkerville’s Collin Chase scored 15 points.

Hesperia (2-5, 1-1) will host Shelby on Friday in a WMC-Rivers contest.

Walkerville (0-4, 0-3) travels to Baldwin on Thursday.
